General Description: Assess, diagnose and treat speech, language, and social communication that meet the individual needs of students enrolled in the speech and language program.
Primary Responsibilities
- Case manage student Individual Education Programs (IEP) to meet specialized needs of students with disabilities
- Coordinates documentation regarding the special education process including referral, evaluation, IEP development and implementation and related processes in compliance with district, state and federal requirements including timelines
- Maintains student special education records and related information as outlined in district comprehensive plan/procedures and in a confidential manner
- Provides speech therapy services on a district-wide basis as dictated by student needs in the area of communication disorders
- Participates in IEP meetings, parent teacher conferences and communicates with parents on a routine basis keeping them informed of their child’s progress in compliance with district procedures
- Evaluates, selects and modifies resources and speech therapy activities consistent with instructional activities and individual student needs
- Prepares lessons that correlate with specific instructional and IEP goals
- Plans, prepares and delivers therapeutic activities
- Creates a positive education climate for students to learn
- Provides opportunities for students to participate actively, effectively and experience success
- Assists in meeting individual and school-wide student performance goals
- Recognizes individual and cultural diversity of all students
- Organizes and requests materials used in therapy and maintains an inventory of materials and assessments
- Communicates effectively and professionally with parents, students and colleagues
- Uses techniques to check understanding and progress of students at regular intervals
- Establishes a climate of courtesy and respect that promotes the orderly behavior of all students and establishes and maintains positive rapport
- Complies with policies; operating procedures; requirements; documentation for billing and progress; and district and state special education regulations
- Participates in ongoing professional development, building and district meetings, department meetings and MDT meetings
- Maintains the confidentiality of students and their families
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor such as indoor supervision, outdoor supervision, and therapist supervision for those who do not have the required credentials to service students who are Medicaid eligible
